Creativity
What is Creativity?
Julie Cameron in The Artist’s Way says that “Creativity is a spiritual experience.”
I’ve heard writers say, “When I’m in the zone, the prose flow from somewhere deep within me.”
I’m in the process of rereading Eckhart Tolle’s book The Power of Now. On pp. 19-20, he writes, “All true artists, whether they know it or not, create from a place of no-mind, from inner stillness. The mind then gives form to the creative impulse or insight.”
I had to pause after reading that statement and really think about what it says. I’ve been writing for many years and more recently I’ve channeled my creative energy into my stained glass art. I definitely agree with all these quotes. There is someplace beyond my mind, beyond my thoughts, where ideas form and I give birth to them either on the page or in my stained glass.
So the question for you is this. How do you define creativity?

Sandy,
Very interesting. I’ve always felt that my creativity comes from some universal well of ideas/images/feelings that I tap into via my muse. When I’m in the zone, I’m channeling the words and images from somewhere, filtered through my own mind and consciousness, of course.
LOL, did that make any sense?

Creativity, to me, is expression borne of freedom. When I first start to write each day, I struggle. It’s as I fall into my story that the words begin to flow. It happens seemingly without thought or effort. It’s freedom. When we close our minds to the business of life we’re free to explore the wonders… and create.

Well said. Debora, I totally agree with you. That’s how I write too.

I just attended at weekend retreat formatted around “The Artist’s Way” by Cameron and found the experience to help me to focus on the world around me in many new ways - not the least of these the “inner” world. It’s is such a challenge to pay attention to this part of myself and give it proper quietness and time to just ‘be.’
I love your pieces you use in your blog, ie. the heart and the yoga pose. Are these available for sale anywhere?
I miss you on Women Heart but glad I can find you here.
Lynn
